Navigating Difficult Classroom Conversations
Difficult conversations, whether in class discussion, debates, or coursework, come from differences in perspectives, values, or experiences and can cause an emotional response or intellectual tension.
When classroom discussions on difficult topics are handled with care, they can serve as moments for personal growth, development of empathy, and critical thinking skills. Critical to navigating these conversations is preparation; developing a plan can alleviate worry and make you feel more confident if the conversation goes astray.
